More people are making the transition to veganism than at any point in recorded history. In 2024, plant-based retail sales in the UK reached £1.1 billion. In the US, 6% of the population now identifies as vegan, up from 1% in 2014. The infrastructure has never been more supportive — and the reasons have never been more compelling.

Start With Why

Understanding your motivation strengthens commitment. For most people new to veganism, the initial motivation is either animal welfare, environmental concern, or personal health — often a combination. All are valid. All are evidence-based.

The First Two Weeks

Nutritionists recommend a gradual transition: begin by replacing one meal per day with a plant-based option. By week two, extend this to breakfast and lunch. By week four, most people find that vegan meals feel natural rather than effortful.

Essential Nutrients to Monitor

A well-planned vegan diet meets all nutritional needs, but three nutrients deserve attention: Vitamin B12 (supplement daily), Vitamin D (supplement October–April in northern latitudes), and omega-3 fatty acids (found in flaxseed, chia and walnuts, or via algae-based supplements).

The Social Side

Eating out has transformed. Every major UK and US city now has multiple dedicated vegan restaurants, and mainstream chains have vastly expanded plant-based menus. Being vegan in 2025 is no longer an inconvenience — it is increasingly the easy option.
